That Day by the River

That day I fell in love by the river
Dusk filtered through cottonwood trees
All these years I’ll never forgive her
For letting me see how it should be

Every marriage by her is measured
Every May frays and withers
Oh how we lay untaken untethered
That day I fell in love by the river

That day I fell in love by the river
A tributary above the Missouri
I walk by a creek and I am delivered
to cottonwood trees and I’m in no hurry

To return to today so there I remain
Soft kisses  waters whisper
Night fell it began to rain
That day I fell in love by the river

Thanks to Dave Ferland – check out his fantastic work here.

Throughout November I am writing a poem a day in an effort to raise money for The Center for New Americans, an organization that is located in Western Massachusetts and does great work in acclimating our new citizens to their new homes.

You may help by going here.

If you appreciate my efforts and my work please share.

Also, most of you know I am moving to Oregon at the end of the year. Before I leave I will bedoing two shows.  Both will be in Amherst at the NACUL Center at 7:00 on November 30 and December 7. Proceeds will benefit The Center for New Americans.

I will be joined by these fine musicians: Joe Ricker, Andrew Atkin, Dave Haughey, Billy Klock and Dan Thomas.

  • Hey Dennis~~really enjoyed the poem which I hooked up via DF’s FB page. The riparian corridors hold many secrets and time passages via water flows and off loading sediments. You will be closer to us when in Oregon and hope to visit with you on the left coast in 2018. Thanks, Jem

    • Hey Jem – I would love to visit. Am looking forward to exploring the west. It makes me very sedimental. Thanks for writing!
