Ashland, Oregon is a community awash with creative people:  writers, actors, musicians, painters, sculptors, etc. How could I stand out here?

What could I add?

And then it came to me…of course!

I would form a dance company! And so The Caraher Modern Dance Company was born.   Like most kids, it had long been my dream to create the book, the music, the lyrics and choreography for a ballet/opera/musical about a lonely boy on a farm in Iowa who escapes the confines of corn country and comes to the realization that he was not a mere serf after all but rather the sole and rightful heir to The Northwest Kingdom!

Next stop: Broadway!

  • I’m coming…to move with you!!! I am sure I can add a lot to your company!!
You are finally living the dream!!! Now we have to keep living a healthy life so we can continue for a
    very long time.

  • Rock it, man!
Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, one of my many DC faves.
    Broadway, look out. Peace.

  • Dennis, what can I say. This new development says it all. I am coming to opening night. You are an inspiration. Lis

  • How cool! I want you to try to get in touch with my cousin who lives near Ashland. More on that later.

  • Hey, I want to be a part of this. Is there a role for a guy who plays your life-long antagonist, the one who is always stealing the girl from you? Gene

    • That show is in the works. But it’s about a guy who is unable to deal with reality.

  • It seems like it would be hard to keep that going 365 days a year. The optimum time frame would probably be somewhere after March 31 but before April 2.

  • I’m not sure what to make of this. I must say, you look a little like a cult leader. In a good way, of course. A good cult. Not one of those…y’know…
    Rock on!

    • Hey – I was taking a dance class and I totally forgot what I was supposed to do and someone took a picture and it actually looks like I am at ease instead of what the reality: lost. Speaking of cults, Netflix has a new series called Wild Country. It’s a doc about a cult that was located near here. Pretty good. And I found the ultimate crater! Crater lake! I was told I would be transformed once I saw it. They have no idea.

  • This just looks so real. It reminded me of when I used to take flamenco in San Francisco. My teacher always stressed the importance of performing, but I was always petrified during recitals. I had several of those moments of complete memory loss while on stage. After one show, a woman approached me and said I was wonderful. “You looked so natural!” I remember thinking she must have confused me with someone else, but I did look fabulous in my outfit. My makeup was anything but natural, and the flower in my hair was made of polyester. But, she saw something in me that I hadn’t recognized. I thank her for that. Maybe she wanted to get to know me! I quit flamenco shortly after that and devoted myself to hot yoga.

    • Imagine that? Wanting to get to know you. People can be so strange. Any photographs from your flamenco period? If you are out here and the timing works, I could talk to my dancers and see if can fit you into a cameo at a performance.

  • Dear Denny, What an honor it is to be your protege (add accents please). I look forward to many more years of being Footloose in Hernando’s Hideaway with you. Here in Ashland, Anything Goes, right? ❤️
